Carlsbad CA Police Department and California Highway Patrol Joint Sobriety Check Point
On Friday night, September 24th, 2010 Carlsbad CA Police and California Highway Patrol Officers conducted their annual joint sobriety check point in honor of two CHP officers,
Sean Nava and
Stephen Linen, who were run down and killed by drunk drivers on the I-5 freeway within Carlsbad city limits. Officer Nava was off the main roadway conducting a follow up to an earlier accident investigation. Officer Linen was on the shoulder conducting a routine traffic stop. In both cases, drunk drivers wandered off the main travel lanes striking and killing the officers. Each officer left behind a young family including several young children.
This checkpoint was rather uneventful. Only one driver was arrested for DUI. Hopefully, people are finally getting the message that drinking and driving is not worth the risk.
